A return of essential workers has been postponed due to wildfire dangers in Yellowknife.

A group of people may be planning to return to Yellowknife without authorization, according to the RCMP, who said Wednesday that they are on alert for such an incident.

Evacuees from the NWT wildfires will not have to worry about missing out on a portion of the Northern Residents Deduction when the next income taxes are filed.

Wildfires around Yellowknife are now listed at being held, but there is no timeline yet as to when residents will be able to return home.

Although the NWT legislative assembly approved an additional $75 million to combat wildfires on Monday, several regular MLAs insisted that more money is needed to help NWT evacuees.

It’s official. The 2023 territorial general election has been postponed for six weeks following an emergency sitting of the legislative assembly in Inuvik on Aug. 28.
