The Northwest Territory Métis Nation (NWTMN) has thrown its support behind Tu Nedhé-Wiilideh MLA Steve Norn following an adjudicator’s ruling last week that he be removed from office.

Christmas was in the air over last weekend as the Hay River Seniors Society hosted a festive wreath-making course at the Alice Cambridge Room, Nov. 20.

The Hay River RCMP are still seeking help this week in locating three suspects following a recent break and enter and theft at the town’s NorthMart store Friday.

The first council of the 2021-2024 term passed a motion to require proof of vaccination certification to municipal facilities at the Nov. 8 regular council meeting and if there is any final takeaway, it is that residents should be questioning the level of reasonableness of those opposing Covid-19 vaccine mandates.

A year from now Hay River is expected to see a completed commercial fish plant after a soft ground-breaking for the project happened in early September.

The Hay River Legion held a small Remembrance Day service in its upstairs hall on Nov. 11 featuring veterans, peace officers, first responders and other dignitaries from the community.

Chief Sunrise Education Centre students were unable to access the school’s healthy food and breakfast program during containment and closure, but by the end of last week many were showing off their own delicacies as they cooked at home.

The Hay River Legion has stepped up and provided a financial boost to the Hay River Ski Club just in time for the sport’s season to begin.
