You Can Play looking for support

The Canada Day parade on July 1 will have all sorts of groups marching and promoting their cause, including the You Can Play initiative.

You Can Play is an initiative which advocates for LGBTQ athletes, coaches and officials to enter the realm of sport without fear of discrimination. Spider Jones, Sport North's You Can Play director, is looking for people to help march with the initiative's banner in the parade.

Jones said the banner being used in the parade is the same one that was used in the Pride Parade in Toronto earlier this month.

Jones is hosting a meeting Thursday night beginning at 7 p.m. at the Sport North office in the Donald Cooper Building beside Black Knight Pub to talk about You Can Play and get people involved with the hopes that they will wear their uniform to march in the parade.

The meeting is open to everyone.
