Police in Yellowknife have charged 27-year-old Devon Larabie with murder in the death of Breanna Menacho, RCMP announced late Friday afternoon.

Before police formally confirmed Menacho’s death, her mother took to Facebook to share a heart wrenching message about her late daughter. It’s been shared hundreds of times and tributes, prayers and condolences are pouring in online.

On Wednesday, police in Yellowknife called on the public to find the 22-year-old. She had been last seen the day before in the Butler Road area.

A police-led search was launched, with ground and aerial searches being performed.

At around 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Mounties were drawn to a home in a multiple dwelling residential area, Lanky Court Apartments, off Forrest Drive.

There, officers discovered Menacho’s body. Police say evidence at the scene led them to treat her death as suspicious.”

NT RCMP Major Crime Unit and the NWT Chief Coroner Office confirmed the deceased as being Menacho, say police.

Larabie is being held in custody and is due back in court on May 12.
