The drive through Covid testing site is returning to Yellowknife on Sept. 8, the GNWT announced on Wednesday.
The service will reopen behind the downtown Yellowknife Primary Care site, which can be accessed from 47th St, the NWT Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) said.
Testing will be available Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It might be expanded to weekends depending on demand.
"This was a popular option when we opened it at the outset of Covid-19 and we are bringing it back to prepare should we see increased demand for testing," a spokesperson with NTHSSA said. "With many people returning to work and school, increased contact, and regular travel back to the NWT by residents and essential workers the NTHSSA is working to enhance our protective measures and make access to testing easy and convenient."
Visitors to the site pull up in their vehicles and are screened by a nurse with questions about their symptoms. Based on their responses, the nurse determines if they qualify for a swab test.
The downtown drive through site first opened on March 23 and tested hundreds of people before it closed on May 11 due to reduced demand.
