Victim of fatal snowmobile accident - a veteran and 'loyal friend' - identified

Forty-six-year-old Jeffrey Lindsay has been identified as the victim of a fatal snowmobile accident northeast of Yellowknife over the weekend, the NWT Coroner Service confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

Lindsay was ejected from his snowmobile on Saturday night after striking a snow-covered rock while travelling near Reid Lake, about 65 km northeast of the city, according to a news release issued by Mounties Monday morning.

A passing snowmobiler who discovered the victim attempted to administer first aid after contacting police, state RCMP.

Lindsay, a sergeant, was a regular, full-time member of the Canadian Forces stationed in Yellowknife, Captain Soomin Kim, of Joint Task Force North/ JTFN Public Affairs confirmed to Yellowknifer Tuesday afternoon.

Tributes to Lindsay have popped up on social media in recent days following his death. One post, published by a former colleague who worked with the late soldier at 56th Field Artillery Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery is a Canadian Army Reserve artillery regiment based in Ontario, praised Linday.

His dedication and commitment to the regiment and 69 Battery was immeasurable,” wrote the Facebook user, adding Lindsay played an “instrumental” while deployed in Afghanistan.

He was an outstanding soldier, a veteran, and a fierce and loyal friend. Sgt. Lindsay is survived by his wife Nadia, and their two sons,” he stated.

End of mission, stand easy,” wrote Lindsay's friend and former colleague.

Yellowknife RCMP is working alongside the NWT Coroners Service to investigate the death.
