'Suspicious' death of man in Behchoko being investigated: RCMP

The "suspicious" death of a man in Behchoko is being investigated by NWT RCMP's Major Crimes Unit.

The man was found unresponsive in the community and was transported to the Behchoko Health Centre, where he was declared deceased, according to a news release issued by RCMP Tuesday afternoon.

The news release follows another issued by RCMP yesterday, in which police described a "serious incident unfolding" in Behchoko. Monday's press release stated additional RCMP officers were called into the community to assist Behchoko RCMP around 1 p.m. Monday.

"Supporting units NT RCMP Major Crimes, Forensic Identification Services and Police Dog Service, attended Behchoko to assist with the investigation," states Tuesday's release.

Now, the death is being treated as suspicious and police are probing the man's sudden death.

RCMP is working alongside the NWT Coroner Service to probe the death.

Police say the investigation remains in its early stages and that no further information will be provided at this time.

Updates to follow.
