I am happy to report that the Seismic Loop is in excellent condition and so too the groomed trails around town. The ungroomed connector between Finlayson North and Range Lake south is rough and narrow so be cautious travelling this trail.

Trail 15 from Kam Lake South through to Mac Lake and Great Slave is very rough so take your time. The larger lakes are becoming more wind drifted and the snow tough but all are still passable.

A dangerous log is poking out along one of the portages between Powder Point and Hidden lake so be careful. One of our local riders lost some panelling and was almost impaled. Do you know of any trails that are in serious need of some brush clearing? If so let us know at: gssatrailriders.com.

As the weather warms the GSSA will have some crews out clearing some of these trails.

TerraX operations continue with drilling sites off Walsh and Banting Lakes. Watch for their signage and give the heavy equipment a wide berth. The Bull Moose-Ruth Winter road is being constructed and a checkpoint installed on Reid Lake. If you plan to travel in that area it would be wise to check in so you know where to expect the work crews.

The GSSA will be hosting a Diva’s Snow Run this Sunday, Feb 25. The ride is open to all ladies in town and will leave from the city dock at 9:45 a.m. heading to Reid Lake. On March 11, GSSA will ride to Hearne Lake Lodge. Pre-registration required and seats are running out fast.

Our Making Trax rally happens on April 7 with most of the proceeds going to Aven’s seniors residence and Yellowknife Search and Rescue.

These GSSA events are open to all riders. Details of all GSSA events can be found on our website. On March 10 there will be an ice fishing derby thanks to Arctic Anglers. March 17 is the Multisport Club’s annual Frostbite 50 race and March 23 to 25 the Long John Jamboree.

Get out and enjoy the spectacular NWT!
