The death of a 35-year-old man in Yellowknife is being treated as “suspicious,” say police.

Yellowknife RCMP was called to a downtown apartment in the area of 53 Street and 50 Avenue just before 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Paramedics were already at the apartment unit attempting to revive the man.

He died before police arrived, according to a news release issued by police.

“Preliminary evidence leads the RCMP to consider the death as suspicious,” states the news release.

The RCMP’s canine and forensic identification units were called in.

NWT RCMP Major Crimes Unit is leading the ongoing investigation alongside the territory’s chief coroner.

Updates to follow.
