Pair of Yellowknife Covid-19 cases confirmed as positive

The two presumed Covid-19 cases reported by the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer (OCPHO) last week have now been confirmed as positive.

The OCPHO issued a statement Wednesday afternoon saying that the affected individuals are appropriately isolating at home with no further word on their condition.

Yellowknife's two probable cases of Covid-19 have now been confirmed by the NWT's Office of the Chief Public Health Officer.

Public Health has also followed up on a list of more than 50 potential contacts provided by Anytime Fitness, the statement added. Anytime Fitness and the Yellowknife RCMP detachment were identified as two locations where one of the affected individuals had been to. According to Public Health, several of those on the list weren't at the gym on the date and times identified in the original notification but more than 20 have been given isolation advice.

The verification of the list is ongoing, said the statement, and with Wednesday being nine days past when the exposure at Anytime Fitness happened, the chances are high that there aren't many people who would be presenting with symptoms as they occur within the first week of someone contracting Covid-19.

There is no further indication of transmission, however monitoring will continue, stated the release. With the OCPHO not being able to guarantee whether all of the contacts would be reached, the exposure notification will continue until 14 days after the dates and times listed for both locations. One of those contacts that hasn't been reached is believed to have been at the RCMP detachment's public waiting area.
