Northwestel is seeking to extend its temporary internet usage relief measures for residential customers until the end of June.
The company has applied to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to extend the data overage waiver until June 30, said spokesperson Andrew Anderson, on Wednesday.
"This extension is subject to regulatory approval," he said.
"The usage relief measures we put forward are identical to previous months. For satellite served communities outside of Nunavut, that relief is and has been 50 per cent of their current monthly usage allowance."
Those communities include Colville Lake, Gameti, Lutsel K’e, Paulatuk, Sachs Harbour, Samba K’e, Ulukhaktok and Wekweeti.
If approved, the extension would be the third time since March when the Covid-19 pandemic hit that the company has applied to extend internet usage for Northerners stuck at home due to school and workplace closures.
