Simon Whitehouse/NNSL photo 49 Street was closed off all day Saturday as an HVAC was being replaced on top of the building. J and R Mechanical was overseeing the project that had three heavy pieces of the unit lifted 19 storeys. It's a replacement projects that we have been planning for about a year and (the old HVAC unit) is the original for the buildin. It's at the end of its life. It's the highest lift that they're doing in the city and the highest building. The4 old unit had to be cut up and hauled down and the new unit goes up in three or four pieces, but they're heavy. Crane can't lift that heavy that high. The unit runs the heating and air into the building. Canuck Crane doing the job. Ryan Sundberg, property manager with the Northern Heights condominium.

Part of 49 Street in downtown Yellowknife will be closed off all day Saturday so the ventilation system at the Northern Heights condominium tower can be replaced.

Ryan Sundberg, property manager with the condominium, said J & R Mechanical is overseeing the project that involves bringing down the original HVAC unit in disassembled pieces from the top of the roof, 19 stories up. Also involved in the crane work of the project is Canuck Concrete Pumping & Crane.

The work involves lifting three or four pieces of a new HVAC up to the top of the building. The building is 60 m (197 feet) tall.

Because of the size of the HVAC unit, the crane can't lift it in one piece, Sundberg explained.

"It's a replacement project that we have been planning for about a year and (the old HVAC unit) is the original for the building," Sundberg said. "It's at the end of its life.

"It's the highest lift that they're doing in the city because it's the highest building."
