The Town of Fort Smith now has a new child care centre, Fort Smith Mayor Lynn Napier announced in a news release Tuesday.

Fort Smith residents have identified the lack of available childcare as a community priority. In April, Fort Smith’s town councillors voted unanimously to create the facility and to create new advisory board of residents interested in supporting the centre.

The facility, which has yet to be named, is staffed by a team of early childhood educators to provide care to preschoolers. The centre is operating in the town’s community recreation centre.

“Town residents have long identified child care as a priority for our community and lack of child care spaces has been a barrier to local economic development and attracting new residents,” Napier said. “I am very excited to announce that the town has opened a new child care centre.”

To register a child in the new centre, contact the town at 872-4732.
