Yellowknife's newest festival is set to kick off next month.

The inaugural Longshadow New Music Festival will run from June 14 to 16, organized by local musician Carmen Braden.

The festival will celebrate contemporary music from the 20th and 21st centuries, with a focus on percussion and big-band jazz for its first year.

So far, the festival's lineup features fiddler and composer Wesley Hardisty, percussionist Nia Devetzis and The Midnight Blue Jazz Band – a traditional big band with 18 members based out of Calgary.

The three-day event will include concerts at NACC, free workshops and soundwalks, which are strolls where the goal is to listen to the environment, through the city's historic Old Town.
