Margot Kidder passes at age 69

Margot Kidder, a former Yellowknife resident and 'Superman' actress passed away on Monday at the age of 69.

According to multiple reports, Kidder passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Montana, US. Kidder was born in Yellowknife and lived in the city for three years; she later went on to star as Lois Lane in the first four Superman movies. After acting Kidder became an environmental activist and advocate for mental health initiatives. She was famously arrested in Washington while she was protesting the Keystone Pipeline protest outside the White House in 2011.

While Kidder left Yellowknife at an early age, she told The Yellowknifer in a interview in 2013 that she still had fond memories of the city. She was a guest of honor at the City's 50th anniversary celebrations.

"My best memories of Yellowknife are when we went back to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the town," she said during her 2013 interview. "My brother John and I and mom and dad went back. Listening to the stories from the bush pilots and the old-timers of the pioneer days was wonderful."

The city named Lois Lane, a small street in the Old Town neighborhood, after Kidder's role in the Superman franchise.
