A man was arrested in downtown Yellowknife Tuesday after police seized a cache of alcohol and cash.

At around 9: 15 a.m., members of Yellowknife RCMP general investigative section (GIS) spotted suspicious activity in the area of 50 Ave and 49th St.

Officers approached the area - a vacant parking lot - and intercepted "what appeared to be the alleged sale of illegal alcohol," a news release stated Wednesday.

One man, arrested by police, was found to be carrying a duffle bag with 16 750 ml bottles of liquor, one 375 ml bottle of vodka and cash.

He was later released and charges are pending.

“The alleged sale of illegal alcohol is concerning, as vulnerable members of our society may be more at risk to this activity. This seizure helps in reducing the harm caused by illegal alcohol in our community” stated RCMP spokesperson Marie York-Condon in the release.
