The finance committee voted to allow YK Drug Mart to sell novelty items embossed with the city's crest.
Ron Lower, owner and manager of the drug store, had requested permission due to numerous requests from customers for sewn crests, silver spoons, lapel pins and the like, all with the city crest on them.
The committee also decided at the same meeting to purchase pins to honour city employees with five, 10 and 15 years employment.
A person with five years would get a silver pin, a person with 10 years a gold pin and a person with 15 years a gold pin with a diamond.
The cost of the plan in the first year was about $400 and required about $100 each year after.

Twenty-one-year-old Pamela Loupelle, a social worker with the Department of Social Services, was one of the 46 women from across the country who competed on national television Halloween night for the Miss Canada crown.
Loupelle was chosen as one of the top eight contestants before she was cut from the top four finalists. It was the second time in four years a Yellowknife woman had made it to the semi finals.
Anne Stevens, executive director of the Miss Yellowknife Society, said she was proud of Loupelle's efforts even though she didn't win.
Loupelle said that being in the pageant opened up opportunities for her. She was offered various jobs in Toronto, including a modelling job. But at the time she was just enjoying a shopping spree in Toronto and looking forward to coming home to Yellowknife.

Old Town's North West Trading Co.'s Trading Post had been bought by Lisa Seagrave, Maureen Jaud and other investors effective Nov. 1. The new owners renamed the business, Gallery of the Midnight Sun.
The North West Co. had decided to sell the Trading Post, as well as similar stores in Whitehorse and Edmonton as part of a reorganization.

Yellowknife's Terry Burns was past the halfway point in his cross-Canada tour to celebrate five-pin bowling's 100-year anniversary in Canada.
Burns finished up the Ontario leg of his tour in the town of Dryden on Nov. 2 and then headed to Manitoba. Burns bowled his second 300 plus game with 312 points in Gimli, Man. on Nov. 4.
He would continue his tour in Manitoba making is way to Saskatchewan Nov. 10.
