The Long John Jamboree will tentatively taking place from March 27 to 29, 2020 on Yellowknife after much speculation last week regarding future plans.

Acting president Garett Cochrane issued a news release on Tuesday afternoon stating that an annual general meeting will take place at the Mermaid and Moon Boutique on Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.

The meeting will elect a new jamboree board of directors and confirm the planned dates, the release stated.

“The Jamboree is seeking people with new ideas and energy to make the 2020 Jamboree fresh and exciting,” the release states.

The release states that despite financial challenges posed by weather related events in recent years, the jamboree is “in the black.”  A blizzard in 2018, which caused a cancellation of a day's events and abnormally warm weather in 2019 that led to the event relocating to the Multiplex both led to “a significant drop in revenue,” the release states.

“We recognize that there’s been uncertainty about the Jamboree’s future,” added Cochrane. “But we believe in the Jamboree, and feel confident that the community of Yellowknife will come out and support it.”
