New drivers looking to hit the road during Covid-19 will have to wait before getting behind the wheel.
Public health restrictions brought on by the pandemic have stalled driver exams and tests — neither are currently available in the NWT, according to Department of Infrastructure spokesperson Greg Hanna.
“While new licences cannot be processed online, we understand the importance of offering this service and we are working toward being able to offer in-person services safely and in compliance with the (Chief Public Health Officer of Canada) order,” stated Hanna in an email.
Other services: vehicle registration renewals, registrations cancellations, registration reprints, driver abstracts and renewals and replacements of driver’s licences/general identification cards, are still being offered online at www.idmv.inf.gov.nt.ca.
There’s no set date for when testing and exams will be up and running again.
“We don’t have a set date for re-opening at this time, but we are working actively to create a safe environment that will allow us to re-open in the near future,” stated Hanna.
