Just when you thought Leo Konge's Western Canada Summer Games adventure couldn't get any better, it did on Sunday.

Day 3 for Team NT at the Games in Swift Current, Sask., was a history-making one for Konge as he became the first NWT athlete since Jonathan Kurszewski of Fort Smith in 1999 to stand atop the podium thanks to his win in the boys 50-metre butterfly. His time of 27.43 was .15 seconds better than Dylan Montemurro-Anderson's swim in heat three. The swimming competition at these Games is contested by just heats with no finals whatsoever and the three fastest times from all the heats determines the medalists.
Konge's win brings the NWT's medal haul at the Games to three. Konge is responsible for all three of them; his two previous medals came on Saturday as he won bronze in the boys 100-metre and 200-metre butterfly events.
Elsewhere in Day 3 action, the girls and boys basketball teams were in action with doubleheaders for each team. The girls started with Yukon in the morning and won that contest rather handily, 67-28. Their evening contest versus Alberta saw them on the losing end of an 80-40 decision. The boys also played Yukon in their opening game and managed to squeak out a 64-58 win before a loss to Alberta, 101-44.
On the soccer field, the girls squad found the win column thanks to their 4-0 win over Yukon on Sunday. The boys, meanwhile, were on the other end of the spectrum as they fell to Yukon, 3-0. The round-robin for both teams wraps up on Monday as the girls will play Saskatchewan at 9:30 a.m. with the boys up against the host province at 3:30 p.m.
The basketball teams also finish up the round-robin today as both teams play Manitoba at 9 a.m. respectively.
