Staff from the Office of the Fire Marshall were on the scene following an early morning fire at Gold City Court.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Office of the Fire Marshall.

GoFundMe page written in French was created today, titled "Support for the Zantoko Family."

"In the night on December 20 a fire destroyed the home of the Zantoko family," the fundraiser description states.

"We organized this fundraiser to help the Zantoko family whose house caught fire on the night of December 20-21," said organizer Mama Sylla in an email.

Their child is enrolled at Allain St Cyr School where Sylla is a secretary and librarian.

Colin Charlton, president of Gold City Court's rental board, confirmed the well-being of the family.

"I have been in contact with the unit owners and the family is safe and sound," said Charlton in an email.

"Thanks to the prompt actions of the Yellowknife Fire Department, the fire was contained to one unit," he said, adding they will keep everyone posted as more details arise.

At the time of writing the fundraiser had collected $250 of its $5,000 goal.
