The City of Yellowknife will resume charging fares for transit riders on July 2.

Yellowknife Transit is moving to relax some restrictions on the same date, as its regular summer service schedule resumes in accordance with the territory’s “Emerging Wisely” recovery plan, the city stated Friday.
The City is urging residents to wear face masks when accessing transit services. While the number of passengers will be capped at 24 per bus, maintaining a physical distance of two metres may not always be feasible, states Friday’s news release.
Passengers will be required to enter buses’ front doors and exit through the back doors.
Changes are coming to how passengers will be required to pay, too.
Punch passes will be replaced with sheets of tickets to “further reduce contact between drivers and passengers.”
Yellowknifers will be able to buy ticket sheets on July 22.
“Anyone who currently has a punch pass who boards a Yellowknife transit vehicle in July can exchange their punch pass for a July monthly pass,” according to the city. “As facilities and services begin to reopen, changes may occur with little notice.”
