Framework promotes disability inclusion, accessibility

The GNWT has announced a new framework that will push for inclusive and equitable access to support for persons with disabilities.

More than 3,000 people in the NWT live with disabilities and the prevalence of disabilities owing to aging, and complex disabilities including autism and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders is projected to rise over the next 15 years, stated a news release yesterday.

The process also identified links between disability and poverty.

The framework addresses financial barriers, awareness and education, transition planning, care-giving and accessibility. In the coming months the government will release its five-year action plan outlining how it will achieve those goals.
