Firefighters muster after a long day's work fighting the Fort Good Hope wildfire on Wednesday. flames jumped the fire break in the community overnight, but those flames have now been contained, according to the fire's information officer.

The wildfire in Fort Good Hope is still out of control and now more than 5,600 hectares in size, according to the GNWT's June 27 information bulletin. Some hot spots jumped over the containment line on the north side, near the Rabbit Skin River, but they are all contained, said Shannon Graf, the information officer for this wildfire.

"Expect the unexpected," said Graf to NNSL Media on Thursday about her reaction to the fire's initial jump.

She explained that the containment line at the river was put in place on the evening of June 25 and thanks to airtankers, helicopters and fire crews, these hotspots are now contained, she said.

Graf said she doesn't have an number on how many hotspots there are. As for when or if they get back behind the line, there's no certain date on that either.

Though the bulletin notes the fire has reached the edge of the community, there is still no confirmed structure loss as of Thursday afternoon.

That said, there's still more work to be done, especially with the upcoming weather.

"We're expecting wind with some gusts," said Graf. "So we're just going to keep an eye on everything."

In the Thursday morning update, it noted that more aggressive fire behaviour could be possible due to dry weather conditions.

"This could create localized smoke in the affected areas that may be visible from the community," it stated.

Though the community was evacuated in mid-June, Chief Collin Pierrot sent out another evacuation order at 6:30pm on June 26, the bulletin explains, telling remaining residents to get out. Fort Good Hope has a population size of about 500.

A fire perimeter scan is also planned to identify undetected hotspots, but there's no update on when that's happening, said Graf.

According to the long-range forecast, Fort Good Hope has some cooler weather beginning early next month with an average of 15 C expected with periods of rain.

Friday and Saturday are pretty much the same temperature wise, with a mix of sun and cloud.
