RCMP have confirmed bone fragments found near Con Mine 14 years ago belonged to Mary Rose Keadjuk, a woman who went missing in Yellowknife in 1990.

The fragments were submitted for forensic examination in 2003, but at the time, tests didn't yield any DNA results.

Today's confirmation comes after police sent the fragments for testing twice again, with the most recent analysis matching Keadjuk's DNA.

Keadjuk's disappearance from the Gold Range Hotel opened an RMCP investigation that remains active today.

"Our members have informed the family of Mary Rose Keadjuk of the results of the examination and the match to Mary Rose. It is an emotional time, however, we are thankful that the improvements to technology allowed a sample to be matched and the identity confirmed by the NWT Chief Coroner," RCMP spokesperson Marie York-Condon stated in a release.

The investigation into Keadjuk's continues.  More to come.
