NWT residents will get a few more weeks to enjoy the great outdoors before the cold sets in as closing dates for most campgrounds were extended until Sept. 30, a spokesperson with the Department of Industry, Training and Investment (ITI) said on Friday.

Exceptions to the extension include Nataiinlaii Territorial Park, which closes on Sept. 2; MacKinnon and Happy Valley parks, which close on Sept. 10; and Blackstone, Fort Simpson and Sambaa Deh parks which close on Sept. 27.

The full list can be viewed on the NWT Parks website.

"As northerners, we are fortunate to have some spectacular parks and campground facilities throughout the territory," said Shane Thompson, ITI minister.

"This extension offers an opportunity for all residents to enjoy some extra time in them while it is still warm enough."

Facilities at Vadzaih Van Tshik or Gwich’in Territorial campgrounds at Gwich’in Territorial Park will not be available at after Sept. 2.
