The RCMP issued a news release stating that the 60-year-old woman was located deceased just off the Pat McMahon Frame Lake Trail in a wooded area at approximately 9:10 p.m on May 1.

The news release states that the RCMP, together with the NWT Coroner Services, determined the person found was Petrovic following an investigation.

She had been missing since Dec. 26, 2019 and had last been seen at about 3:40 p.m. that day in the downtown area. Police began a missing persons investigation the next day and several public efforts have been made to find her over the last few months.

"The missing person investigation was led by investigators with the Yellowknife RCMP General Investigative Section (GIS)," the news release states.  "They were supported by the NWT RCMP Police Dog Services, Yellowknife RCMP and resources from other units as required. "

Police note that the downtown core had been canvassed and local organizations have been used to try to help locate Petrovic, including the Yellowknife Ground Search and Rescue and Civil Air Search and Rescue Association.

Alex Laporte, Yellowknife RCMP detachment commander, provided a statement offering his condolences as the police continue to communicate with Petrovic's family and friends as the investigation progresses.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Sladjana as we bring this news forward," Laporte stated.  "We hope there will be some closure for them now.”

Yellowknife RCMP state they they are supporting the NWT Coroner Services in an investigation as they have ordered a post-mortem examination.
