NWT businesses investing in safety measures to meet the requirements under the Emerging Wisely Covid-19 recovery plan can now apply for funding from the GNWT's Support for Entrepreneurs and Economic Development (SEED) Program, according to a June 17 news release.

The SEED program can cover costs for structural changes to protect employees, such as Plexiglas shields; capital improvements, like drive-through windows or outdoor patios for restaurants; investments incurred for moving operations online; and purchases of personal protective equipment for employees.

Companies that have already invested in those expenditures can apply to have some of them reimbursed, retroactive to April 1.

“We have listened to the concerns of businesses and are prepared to offer support and do what we can to help businesses operate in the post-Covid environment. Together with the federal government, we continue to offer support that is forward-looking and aimed at helping our economy to recover,” said Industry, Tourism and Investment Minister Katrina Nokleby.

Applicants should demonstrate both financial need and the need for the proposed costs so they can open and operate properly.

SEED's allowed funding range is between $30,000 and $75,000.
