All facilities open as city resumes programming

The City of Yellowknife is ensuring its recreational programming will be available for the fall season according to a city news release Thursday.

"The city is pleased to invite residents to explore programming options available for the fall season," states the release.  "All city facilities are now open with additional public safety measures in place, as approved by the Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO)."

City officials have been concerned that with Covid-19 pandemic, that there could be limitations to residents who rely on municipal programs during the colder and darker months of Yellowknife's winters.

Thursday's release, however states that there will be plenty of registered programs offered like judo, tennis, YogaPl3y, Bollywood dance and Creation Station. Residents can register at the the city website. 

Drop in programs will also be available, including for activities like public skating, shinny, tennis, basketball and pickleball and are available up to five days a week. Residents are asked to register online and pay admission at the facility.

"Anyone entering the facility should be registered in a program or drop-in activity, or attending a group rental," states the release adding that all are to sign up and complete a contact tracing form.
