Yellowknife Education District No. 1 (Yk1) said Thursday that it has ordered additional school buses in collaboration with other school boards and bus company First Transit.

As First Transit is currently in the process of recruiting new bus drivers and will transport additional buses to Yellowknife as soon as possible, YK1 advised it's hopeful the buses will be ready by mid-November. The additional buses are meant to accommodate families on wait lists and those looking to buy passes for the winter.
Students still require masks while riding the bus, and a maximum of 50 students are allowed per bus route. Yk1 has also stated that it encourages families to drive their children to school as much as possible “to help limit exposure to Covid-19.”
