About 100 Yellowknifers got together for a march in solidarity for Palestinians on Saturday, March 25.

About 100 Yellowknifers got together for a march in solidarity for Palestinians on March 25.

Derek Lindman attended the rally and is a spokesperson for YK Citizens for Ceasefire.

"We got really amazing responses from a variety of people," he said.

Lindman added that Kate Reid, MLA for Great Slave, also attended the march.

"A lot of people are feeling alone and hopeless in many ways, so having leadership, politicians making statements, or their organizations stand up, is invigorating. These are desperately dark times, but having people step up is a ray of hope."

That said, Lindman noted that more needs to be done. Two days after the rally, an Israeli air strike killed about 50 people in a camp for displaced Palestinians in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, according to health officials in Gaza.

"More needs to be done," said Lindman, talking about lack of response not only to this attack, but all the others that have come before it. "We want our politicians to do more."

YK Citizens for Ceasefire is also raising money for families in Gaza. According to Amy Lam, one fo the organizers for YK Citizens for Ceasefire, as of March 27, they've raised more than $14,000.

They officially started collecting donations a little more than two weeks ago.
