Struggles continue for Kerry Galusha

Suffice it to say that the 2018 Scotties Tournament of Hearts hasn't been the best for Kerry Galusha and Team NWT.

Galusha sat with a record of one win and five losses as of press time. She ended up dropping another heartbreaker to Nova Scotia on Tuesday, 9-8, which preceded a 9-3 loss to the wild card entry of Kerri Einarson of Manitoba Wednesday morning. They had one more game on Wednesday evening against Northern Ontario to wrap up the round-robin.

It's tournament time

One of the biggest minor hockey tournaments of the season is set to drop the puck this evening at the Multiplex and Yk Community Arena.

The annual Chris Bergman Invitational Tournament will feature four divisions of play with the Timbits, initiation, atoms and bantams all hitting the ice. All of the Yk Minor Hockey Association's teams will be in action, including the girls teams – U8, juniors and seniors – and they will be joined by teams making the trip in from Fort Smith and Inuvik.

The action will continue through the weekend with the finals happening at the Multiplex on Sunday afternoon.

Skiers head east

The Yellowknife Ski Club are hitting the road en masse for the Haywood NorAm Eastern Canadian Championships in Ottawa, which begins today.

Thirteen skiers from the club will be on the trails with a majority of them competing in either the juvenile or junior divisions. Moira Green is one exception as she is entered in the midget division.

Clair Littlefair, fresh off her bronze medal performance at the Haywood NorAm Western Canadian Championships last month, will bring the total number of Yellowknifers competing to 14.

The sprints are scheduled for today, followed by the main action on Saturday and Sunday.

Battle in the pool

It's a good old-fashioned capital vs. community battle at the Ruth Inch Memorial Pool this weekend as the NWT Swimming Championships begin this afternoon.

The Polar Bear Swim Club will be out in full force as they go up against the Mackenzie Muskrats from Inuvik, who have been coming on strong in recent months.

Jane Mooney, head coach of the Polar Bears, said the Hay River Lions and Fort Smith Hurricanes, the other two big clubs in the territory, were unable to get teams together for this year's meet.

Today's action starts at 4:30 p.m. and continues tomorrow between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. before finishing up Sunday morning.
