What is in the news today? Remember the years and years we heard about the residential school problem. And, we have only heard the negative side of the schools! Well, we are going to hear about the good side of the schools. For weeks on the television news channels we have been bombarded for days about Senator Lynn Beyak being kicked out of the caucus in the Senate for having letters from people who wrote about the good side of the residential schools.
People have been writing her letters on the positive and fair side of the residential schools and because the million the feds have spent to expose the negative side of the residential school, there was no room for the positive side many people experienced. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission spent years examining the legacy of the schools.
I guess now there are too many questions being asked? How come the government and some students didn't mention a word about the good and the positive side of residential schools? What are the positive sides of the residential school legacy? Did no one ask if there was something good?
Senator Beyak is in trouble because she posted some of the letters she received on her website. People who wrote her wanted to know why the investigation into residential schools was only one-sided – focusing on the negatives. There are always two sides to every story! But the feds, the lawyers, the students only told the negative stories. We know the feds spent millions on this study.
This is why Senator Beyak is asking questions. She is receiving letters from people who want to know of the positive sides of the residential schools, such as in the NWT. In fact, many elders in the NWT are working on gathering information to go public on the positive side of the residential schools. We all heard of horrible lies created by some individuals in order to receive as much money as they could. Anyhow, we will now hear the other side of the residential schools because even the news media are asking the question: How come we only hear or heard the bad side of the residential schools? There is always a good side.
So, now the news media wants a debate in the news, get ready to hear about the positive side of the residential school. This is only fair as we must hear both sides to everything.
What to do in 2018 in our neck of the woods? I think the women must rise and form a dynamic group from Wrigley to the Delta region. Come on, all you dynamic women put on your thinking caps and start thinking about our isolated region, our children and the youth. They need a good future and that means we must get out of isolation. We need ideas and plans, etc. Phone me with ideas. We can plan a meeting in Norman Wells, maybe in April?
