September 2, 1927 - October 13, 2023

Grace Edith Ravndal was born in Wilcox, Saskatchewan on September 2, 1927. Until her death on October 13, 2023 at the age of 96, she lived over 64 years in Yellowknife. Grace first moved to Yellowknife in 1949 to work for the Canadian Bank of Commerce (which would eventually become CIBC).

After two years in Yellowknife, she moved to Calgary, Uranium City and

Edmonton. But the North beckoned and she returned to Yellowknife in 1962. With her husband John, Grace raised two children; Cheryl and Clayton. She continued to work for CIBC, retiring after 37 years. She joined the Workers' Safety and Compensation Commission in 1989, where she worked until 2004.

Grace joined the Order of the Royal Purple in 1964 and was an honorary life member until her death. While working tirelessly as a volunteer to serve her community, Grace forged friendships that would last throughout her life.

Grace made time to pursue her twin passions of curling and golf. Summers were spent golfing either at the Yellowknife Golf Club or with her family in Saskatchewan. In 2008, the Yellowknife Golf Club presented Grace with a lifetime membership, during their 60th Anniversary celebrations. Grace's other summertime passion was working on her flower garden and lawn, spending many hours planting, weeding and watering.

Grace is lovingly remembered by her daughter Cheryl Menard (Michael) and her beloved granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Cassidy and Riley. She will also be missed by her brother Clarence and sister Florence, as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada and Norway. Grace was predeceased by her parents, Emma and Charles Jackson; husband John, son Clayton, her sister Helen and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

Grace's family would like to thank the compassionate health care workers of the Stanton Territorial Hospital and the dedicated nurses and personal care support staff of Yellowknife Home & Community Care. Also, they send their thanks to the amazing health care staff at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital who went above and beyond to care for an evacuee far from home.

A memorial and reception was held for Grace on October 20, 2023, at the Baker Community Centre, after which an interment was held at the Lakeview Cemetery.
