The seventh annual World Snow Day event will be taking place on Sunday, Jan. 20, with activities running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A free pancake breakfast is being hosted at the Yellowknife Ski club to kick off the event, with activities such as hockey, snow volleyball, snowmobiling and snowboarding sessions running throughout the day. All activities are free to the public and are open to all ages.

The free events are a great way to get outdoors and celebrate our winter city. I encourage Yellowknifers to participate with family and friends,” said Mayor Rebecca Alty.

The event is promoted by the International Ski Federation, which is encouraging everyone around the world to celebrate snow and the great outdoors.

Activities are organized by community organizations – which includes the Yellowknife Ski Club, YK Beach Volleyball and Great Slave Snowmobile Association – and are taking place in a variety of locations such as the Somba K’e Civic Plaza and Bristol Pit Hill.

Try something new or play your favourite sport,” Alty added.
