A large haul of alcohol, along with a firearm, was seized from an individual coming from the Wha'Ti boat launch area on Aug. 31, police say.

Wha'Ti RCMP confiscated 16 375 ml liquor bottles and three 1.75 letre bottles, stated a news release from Mounties Friday.

It's unclear whether the individual, who remains unidentified, was arrested or detained, but according to the release, no charges have been laid.

“Given the time of year, this is considered a significant seizure for the community of Wha’Ti and has prevented the sale of illegal alcohol within the community,” an RCMP spokesperson stated in the news release.

Substance abuse continues to be an ongoing issue within many communities and is only compounded by illegal sales. The Wha’ti detachment in partnership with community partners continue to work together to combat these illegal sales of alcohol in an effort to reduce the harmful effects it causes,” stated the release.

Anyone with information about the illegal sale of alcohol is aksed to contact Wha’ti RCMP at 867-573-1111.
