Two people unharmed after industrial explosion rocks Inuvik building

No injuries were reported after a worksite explosion rocked a building in Inuvik yesterday, say RCMP.

Mounties responded to the blast at an industrial worksite in the community just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a news release issued by RCMP Wednesday afternoon.

Two people were reported to have been inside the affected building, say RCMP, but walked away from the blast unharmed.

Inuvik's fire chief arrived at the worksite to the secure the scene following the explosion.

The cause of the blast remains undetermined, but police say there is no evidence to suggest criminality in relation to the explosion.

The investigation has been turned over the Worker's Safety and Compensation Commission, according to Wednesday's news release.

Updates to follow.
