A 24-year-old Tulita man has been charged with possessing and making child pornography.

Fort Simpson RCMP, along with the NWT RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) - a newly formed unit dedicated to tackling online abuse and exploitation of children - arrested and charged the man on Monday, states a news release issued by police Wednesday.

RCMP executed a search warrant and seized electronic devices in relation to the investigation.

Due to Tulita’s small population and the nature of the charges, RCMP are not naming the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.

Police do not believe the safety of residents in the community is at risk.

The man, who faces possession of child pornography and making child pornography charges, has also been charged with sexual interference.

The charges come just weeks after a man living in Whati was charged with child pornography offences following an investigation by ICE, the two-member RCMP unit.
