Just like arenas, curling clubs around the territory will be getting going with its new seasons in the coming weeks.
The School of Community Government, which is operated under the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs, is holding its Curling Operations Level I course at the Fort Smith Curling Club starting on Oct. 2. The course will look at several aspects of running a curling club, such as the marking, making, painting and maintenance of ice surfaces.
There will also be instruction on how to make a good sheet of ice, how to operate ice maintenance equipment and performing maintenance tasks.
It will run until Oct. 4.
Back on the ice
Chatham, Ont.
Fresh off his big win in China, Kevin Koe and his rink were back in action, this time on the Grand Slam of Curling circuit.
Koe and his rink of B.J. Neufeld, Colton Flasch and Ben Hebert were in the Elite 10 event in Chatham, Ont., which features the top 10 men's and women's teams from last year's standings.
Koe started on Sept. 27 against Brad Jacobs of Northern Ontario, which ended in a victory, followed by a win over Sweden's Niklas Edin on Sept. 27. The format of the tournament differed from regular events in that scoring was done in a matchplay-style format, where ends won determined the game score.

Futsal camps postponed

There was no fustal happening around the NWT late last month after all.
NWT Soccer's regional fustal development camps were scheduled to take place in Aklavik, Fort Smith, Norman Wells and Fort Simpson for each of the four regions outside of Yellowknife but they have been postponed.
Lyric Sandhals, NWT Soccer's executive director, said a myriad of issues caused the postponements and she's put it back out to the communities to see when they can be re-scheduled.
