Onlookers chase driver after crash

A driver who slammed into multiple vehicles on Finlayson Drive on Saturday afternoon was chased by local residents before police were able to make an arrest.

That incident happened one day after an unrelated incident when a gold Chevrolet SUV slammed into the side of a convenience store uptown.

“I was eating ice cream outside of Reddi-Mart and saw the vehicle speed up and hop the parking barrier and slam into the building,” said witness Mathew Craig. “The air bags went off and the front end was smashed.”

Another witness told Yellowknifer the driver of the vehicle pulled into the store’s parking lot shortly after 3:30 p.m. and then accelerated over a cement block and into the side of the building.

Witnesses estimated that the SUV was travelling close to 60 km/h when it made contact. The driver was able to walk out of the vehicle, with assistance, and was put into an ambulance.

Multiple vehicles were damaged on Finlayson Drive after a van swerved off the road and into a parked vehicle.

The next day, a woman was arrested after a van drove into multiple vehicles on Finlayson Drive and the driver attempted to flee the scene, said RCMP.
“She was driving a dark brown van up Finlayson Drive, going southbound. Looks like she went off the road and crashed into a number of other vehicles,” said Const. Harrison Teed.
The woman attempted to run from the scene after her vehicle was boxed in outside of a home along Finlayson Drive, he said.

A number of residents chased after her before the police were able to make an arrest shortly before 2 p.m.

It's unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor. There were no reported injuries.

An estimate for damage to the vehicles also wasn't immediately known.
