The popular Saturday Fisherman's Wharf outdoor market will open June 16.

This summer, the market will be run by the West Channel Heritage Society.

Fisherman's Wharf usually runs until September.

 

Town hosting Father's Day celebration at falls

The Town of Hay River is presenting a Father's Day celebration on June 17.

It will consist of biking and a barbecue at the Louise Falls cook house, south of Enterprise.

The celebration, which will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., will allow participants to ride the trails at the falls.

Walk for Alzheimer's planned for June 16

The Investors Group Walk for Alzheimer's will take place in Hay River on June 16.

Registration for the walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Rec Centre.

The one-to-two kilometre walk will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Rec Centre and will end on the track of Diamond Jenness Secondary School.

A barbecue will take place at noon.

Scavenger hunts at public library

A scavenger hunt – called Hay River's Amazing Race – will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on June 15, beginning at NWT Centennial Library.

The event is open to all ages for teams of at least three people.

For the free event, participants can pick up an Amazing Race brochure at the library.

It will provide instructions on the items to find and activities to complete to qualify for a prize draw.

The event is to help celebrate Recreation and Parks Month.

Nominations open for mining awards

The GNWT, in partnership with the NWT and Nunavut Chamber of Mines, is seeking nominations for the second annual NWT Mining and Exploration (MAX) Awards.

Nominations are being sought in five categories: distinguished service, economic leadership, environmental and social responsibility, Indigenous achievement and special achievement.

Nominations are due by Oct. 1.

The awards will be presented in November at the Yellowknife Geoscience Forum.

"We know there are individuals, organizations, and governments doing great work each day essential to the unique, world-class minerals sector the NWT enjoys today," said Industry, Tourism and Investment Minister Wally Schumann in a June 8 news release.
