Inuvik RCMP search for suspect after alleged arson at apartment complex

Inuvik RCMP are searching for a suspect following an alleged arson incident at an apartment complex in the community this morning.

Mounties were called to the Lakeview Apartment Complex, located at 20 Boot Lake Road, just after 1 a.m. this morning after reports a man was "running through the hallways yelling," while a "strong noxious substance" was smelted by apartment tenants, states a news release issued Wednesday afternoon.

Another resident told police his vehicle was set ablaze during the incident.

The man, according to the news release, stated the vehicle fire was quelled by fellow tenants before RCMP arrived on scene.

The suspect "immediately fled the area" following the incident, say RCMP.

He's described as "a tall man, with a slender build, wearing a black and red jacket," states the news release.

Inuvik RCMP, which continues to probe the incident, is taking the matter "very seriously."

Police are "exploring" the possibility of charging the suspect - who hasn't been apprehended - with "arson, mischief endangering life, as well as uttering threats,” states Const. Heather Cosenzo in the news release.

Anyone with information about the alleged arson incident is asked to contact RCMP at 867-777-1111.

Updates to follow.
