A tip received by Inuvik RCMP has led to the arrest of an alleged armed robber.

On April 5, a young male, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and charged with robbery, an RCMP news release stated Friday.

The youth is alleged to have entered the Corner Store convenience store in Inuvik on the evening of April 3, where he demanded cash and brandished a knife.  The clerk didn't hand over any money, but the suspect fled the store with stolen items.

The next day, police appealed for the public's help in identifying and locating the suspect. The plea proved to be successful, as RCMP received a tip that led to the youth's arrest.

“We appreciate the quick reaction to our request for public assistance and sincerely thank the citizens of Inuvik for assisting the RCMP with this investigation” RCMP spokesperson Marie York-Condon stated in the release.

The youth has been remanded in custody and will appear in Youth Justice Court.
