As NWT grapples with disproportionate rates of addiction, the negative public stereotype known as stigma remains a roadblock to treatment, says an expert.
"(That's) the most commonly recorded barrier to seeking support among people who do encounter substance abuse problems," said Rebecca Jesseman, director of policy at the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addictions.
