In a July 4 Hay River Hub story, ('Playschool closes after 25 years'), it was reported that the school closed in part because the Department of Education Culture and Employment (ECE) pulled its funding. ECE disputes this. In an emailed statement, Pam Coulter, an ECE spokesperson, said “ECE continues to fund spaces for children up to and including five-year-olds even with the introduction of JK (Junior Kindergarten) and currently has no plans to change that." Coulter also said the only funding change for early childcare programs in the past few years was an increase in the rate per space. The Hub apologizes for any confusion or embarrassment this error may have caused.
