Chief re-elected in Tsiigehtchic

Photo submitted by Charlene Blake On June 20th, 2011 Tsiigehtchic band members chose Phillip Blake to be their new chief. He beat out incumbent Frederick Blake Jr. by a margin of 78 to 48.

Phillip Blake was re-elected chief of the Gwichya Gwich’in band in Tsiigehtchic on March 11, according to preliminary results.
Blake got 59 votes, followed by 49 for Russel Andre and 41 for Grace Blake.
This caps off an ordeal that lasted nearly a year, in which Andre beat Phillip Blake by one vote on June 18, 2018.
The election was successfully contested and overturned on the grounds that regulations were not followed in regards to mail-in ballots.
