For Hay River's Brendan Green, it's two races down and one more to go at the Winter Olympics.

Right now, the biathlete is looking ahead and preparing for the men's relay set for Feb. 23.

"We have high hopes for the relay, for sure, but there are so many variables that can affect the outcome of a race," he said by e-mail from South Korea. "The team in general is in decent shape so far, so with a bit of luck and strong races from each of us, a good result is possible."

Green has had mixed results at the PyeongChang Olympics so far.

"The opening race for me, the 10-km sprint, was a tough one," he said, referring to an event on Feb. 11. "The weather here in Korea has been cold and extremely windy, which has been making our racing quite difficult, especially the shooting. The first half of the race was quite decent. I was in 29th place at the halfway point, but struggled in standing with the strong wind."

At the end, he finished in 82nd place in the 10-km Sprint.

However, Green rebounded with a strong showing in his next race on Feb. 15.

"The 20-km Individual race was much better for me where I finished in 22nd place," he said. "I shot 19/20, picking up just one miss in my last standing bout. I was in a good position the whole race, and had I shot clean in the last standing, the end result would have been very strong with a top 10 finish. Overall, I am quite happy with the performance that I executed. Given this point in my career and the ups and downs over the last couple of seasons, I am very happy with my result and how I performed in this race."

The 31-year-old said the PyeongChang Olympics have been fun so far, adding that each Olympics he has participated in has been unique and special in its own way.

This is Green's third Olympics, after having competed in Vancouver in 2010 and Sochi, Russia, in 2014.

"The goal at each Olympics I’ve been to has been the same," he said. "Focusing on executing the best race I can on each given day and then letting the result take care of itself. If my preparation has gone well and my shape is there, I know I can achieve a top result."
