Another day, another bronze medal for Team NT at the Western Canada Summer Games in Swift Current, Sask., this time on the track.

The team of Nicolas Bennett of Yellowknife, Bryce Smith of Hay River, Zachary Horton of Hay River and Stryden Hult-Griffin of Inuvik captured third place in the boys medley relay on Saturday, finishing in a time of 4:01.36. They were aided a bit by the disqualification of Saskatchewan, booted from the race after a bad pass of the baton.
The medley relay differs from a traditional relay in that there are varying distances involved. This relay featured 2 sets of 100-metre dashes, followed by a 200-metre dash and ending with a 400-metre dash. Hult-Griffin started the first leg of the race and handed the baton off to Smith, who's a sprint specialist. Horton ran the 200-metre leg and Bennett, a long-distance specialist, finished things off for the team.
Elsewhere on Saturday, the girls volleyball team played in its semifinal against Alberta with a spot in the gold medal game on Sunday on the line but it wasn't meant to be. The girls were swept aside in straight sets, meaning they will play for the bronze medal versus Saakatchewan at 9 a.m. on Sunday. The boys, meanwhile, took on Nunavut for fifth place and wrapped that place up by winning that match in straight sets on Saturday.
The wrestlers finished up the team competition on Saturday with mixed results. They defeated Yukon handily but fell to Nunavut. Cameron Courtoreille, Quinn Critch and Kaitlyn Sterwat all won their matches by forfeit as there was no Nunavut opponent in their weight class. The individual competition will go today beginning at 9:30 a.m.
