Beavertail Jamboree cancelled for 2021

Dehcho residents will have to look to 2022 for the next Beavertail Jamboree as the organizing committee announced the carnival’s cancellation Wednesday.

With limited capacity for indoor events and social distancing required even outside, it would be too much for the committee to put on a week of events, especially given the fact that members are volunteers, said Cindy Browning, Beavertail Jamboree president.

The annual winter carnival normally features snowmobile races, a fish fry, community barbecue, traditional games and other activities to fill a week of festivities.

Last year, Browning said since Covid precautions were not yet in place, they were able to go ahead with almost all of the carnival’s events up until the adult talent show and dance – the Jamboree’s biggest fundraiser most years.

The committee announced the cancellation over Facebook Wednesday afternoon. People have so far been understanding, according to Browning. She said the committee is considering sponsoring a small snow sculpture or snowman-building contest that families would be able to participate in from their own yards, though details are yet to be confirmed.

While the cancellation comes as disappointing news for many, Browning assures that Beavertail Jamboree 2022 will be “even bigger and better.”
