Aurora College is slated to become a polytechnic university by 2025.

Education Minister Caroline Cochrane said it would take five to six years to complete the project in a Tuesday press release.  The new polytechnic would build "capacity at the three existing campuses and all our Community Learning Centres," she said.

Over the course of March and April, 700 residents provided feedback and more than 4,500 comments on the Territory's development of post-secondary education, the release stated. The main themes of the responses centred around supporting and encouraging youth as they pursue their education closer to home.

Moving forward, the release stated the Territory will be recruiting education advisers for a council to guide the development of the post-secondary institution, followed by a public release of a broader  framework and further strategizing with Aurora College. The Territory expects plans to be set to action from March 2020 to September 2020.
